Shendetlie Recipe

Shendetlie is a traditional Albanian honey cake that is rich, moist, and perfect for any occasion. This delicious dessert, whose name means "health" in Albanian, is believed to bring good health and happiness. It’s particularly popular during holidays and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan and set aside.
  • Mix the Wet Ingredients:
  • In a bowl, beat the eggs. Add the melted butter, honey, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined.
  • Add the Dry Ingredients:
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until smooth.
  • Add Walnuts:
  • Chop the walnuts into small pieces and add them to the batter. Mix everything until the walnuts are evenly distributed.
  • Bake:
  • Pour the batter into the greased baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for about 30-35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool and Serve:
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
